This unit was quite interesting for me to learn more about my own language. It was stated in the text that most of these concepts are not even taught at the university level, and definitely were not part of any english course curriculum that I have ever taken. The phonetic alphabet is almost like an entirely new foreign language or code. Though I can see it has a purpose unifying the pronunciation of words that interchange letters for different sounds, it would be very difficult to teach someone that is just starting with the english language, as I do not have a firm grasp on this myself.
