This unit encompasses some of the universal differences between the age 5 - 9 year old group and the age 9 -13 year old group. It is important to divide these groups by these ages in most instances. There can be the rare 9 year old who fits well into either group, but probably seldom. In general 5 - 9 year olds love to freely express what they know, but to have a safe environment in which to do so. A calm teacher, students selected by personality to work together, and a colorful, safe classroom are essential. I think the older group likes to perform more as scientists, discovering what they know, how it all goes together, and then expressing in a preferred mode. Talkers at this age should be encouraged to write as well, and writers to talk.
