This unit covered different ways as to how to begin to develop a course for young learners. The unit first defined level testing as a way to show the ability of individual students' use of the English language. This would be the first consideration when developing a course for your young learners. The next step would be to create a "needs analysis." This gives the teacher a look at the students' previous learning experiences, what they will use English for, and the most beneficial areas for them to study. This can be done as a questionnaire and once completed the teacher will have a better idea as to how they may want to group their students. The next step in developing a course for young learners would be the syllabus. There are many different types of syllabus designs and the teacher should take into account factors such as: their employer, learners needs, the types of assessments and number of assessments, and classroom resources. Lastly, assessments play a large role in developing a successful course. Teachers should know when and how to use a variety of assessments for their students.
