This unit helps explain the past tense in depth as well as the structure to follow for forming past tense sentences. The past simple is used to express completed actions in the past. The past continuous is used to indicate that a certain action was in progress at a particular time in the past. The past perfect refers to a past action and a related past action before that. It essentially relates two past actions to each other. The past perfect continuous talks about two past actions and focuses on the fact that one of the two actions had been continuing at another point in time in the past. The sample activate stage teaching ideas are easy enough to conduct with a beginners class and can be tweaked to suit advanced level students as well. This unit was easier to comprehend after having completed the present tense unit.
