Unit 2 discusses the roles of teachers and learners. It covers some of the advantages and disadvantages of teaching English to adults. Many of the disadvantages of teaching children are minimized (attention span, motivation, behavior issues) so lessons may be more relaxed and enjoyable overall, however adults have many more demands on them, so consistent attendance or interruptions to your planned lessons may be an issue. The unit discusses advantages and disadvantages of teaching one-to-one vs. in groups, such as personality differences and differing language levels. The receptive (listening and reading) and productive (writing and speaking) skills are addressed, including relevant applications in a business setting (memos, emails, presentations, meetings, etc). Finally, the unit covers different teaching methodologies, suggesting "Engage Study Activate" combines many of the best parts of all the other methodologies and may be the best for helping students to think and speak in English.
