Unit 13 touched on a variety of topics including pronunciation, phonology, and different aspects of each. Intonation is something that in my opinion is very important because if used in the wrong way, the meaning of the sentence could be taken differently. As a native English speaker, I think this is something that is taken for granted. Stressing different words and syllables can also make a difference whens speaking. It was nice be given a table that laid out the rules simply. As a teacher, knowing the differences between how something is written and how it sounds is very important. This is something that you can make sure the class notes on so they are listening for the differences when listening to a native speaker. Phonemic symbols are something that I have never looked at, so seeing and working through these charts made me feel much more comfortable. Finally, I liked how it touched on some anatomy of the mouth and how voice and sound is produced. This is good background knowledge to have and can be great to use when teaching pronunciation. Overall I think this lesson clarified some topics that I was questioning before the start of this class.
