This unit went over common problems that an ESL teacher might face in the classroom. I learned that when dealing with a new group or existing group the teacher always needs to establish a rapport with the students. It gives a chance for students and teachers to get to know one another. This unit also went over what to do when there is a large class that you need to teach and how to handle it without feeling overwhelmed. A few of the ideas given were: to use pair work, worksheets, choral repetition, and appoint group leaders. With these in mind, the teacher is able to control the classroom better and make it a successful lesson. Another important troubleshooting point the unit went over is how to deal with reluctant students. Most teachers will eventually come across a few in their teaching careers. The best way to combat that is to use a combination of pair work, role-play, controlled practice, and a tape recorder if possible.
