A teacher has multiple roles such as instructor, facilitator, mentor, psychologist, counsellor and policeman. Teaching adults means that the problems usually associated with teaching children are less as behavioural problems are minimal but motivation is greater. Teaching one to one clients has its advantages and disadvantages both for the teacher and the student. For example, the teacher will not have any mixed abilities or fast finishers to deal with and the students would have constant attention from the teacher but on the other side the lesson can become a bit monotonous for students and the teacher can have limited range of activities. The skill areas are 1. listening and reading - receptive skills 2. speaking and writing - productive skills. In a business English course, listening can be tackled through telephoning, reading can be tackled through business publications and emails, speaking can be tackled through telephoning and presentations and writing can be tackled through reports and mail. Grammar Translation, Audio Lingualism, The silent way, Task-based learning and Presentation Practice Production (PPP) are all teaching methods. Communicative language teaching is an approach to the teaching of second and foreign languages, with interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language. Emphasis must be put on: communication, tasks and meaning. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences was developed by Howard Gardner in 1983. Multiple intelligence goes beyond learning modalities as they deal with the way information is processed and how learning occurs in individuals. Problem-solving capabilities allow students to use all the intelligence to solve a problem. A lesson time should be broken down into stages: Engage, Study and Activate. Children acquire language through a subconscious process during which they are unaware of grammatical rules. Language learning is the result of direct instruction in the rules of language.
