Future tenses: Future simple: form (subject+ will + infinitive verb+ object) • Usage: future facts, promises, predictions based on no present evidence, assumptions, spontaneous decisions and threats. Negative form: I will not come to Malaysia next year. Interrogative form: Will you come to Malaysia next year? Teaching ideas: fortune telling, ask about students’ future plans and ask the students’ to predict about the future. Future continuous: form (subject+ will+be+ verb+ing) Usage: • Say that something will be in progress at a certain time in the future. • Predict the present to say what might happen. • Polite enquiries. • Fixed future events. Teaching ideas: arranging diaries and dates. Future perfect: form (subject+will+have+past participle) • Usage: to say that something will be completed by a certain time in the future. Teaching ideas: ask students to tell each what they are planning to achieve by a certain age. Future perfect continuous: form (subject+ have+ been+ verb+ing) • Usage: to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. Teaching ideas: how long have you been learning English by next year/summer/winter? Be going to+ infinitive: Usage: • Intentions. • Predictions based on evidence. • Decisions made before speaking. Teaching ideas: making holiday plans and make predictions based on evidence. Present continuous- fixed future arrangements I’m flying to Malaysia tomorrow (I have a ticket) fixed plan. Present simple- timetables and schedules The bus leaves at 7:30 pm every day.
