This unit addresses Modal and Phrasal verbs as well as the Active and Passive voices used when communicating. Modal verbs are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb and can indicate - Obligation, Possibility/ Probability, Ability, Permission and Advice. Phrasal Verbs are a little more difficult to explain to students. These are Multi-word Verbs and typically have a Verb + one or two particles (Adverbs/ prepositions or a combination) There are specific rules that indicate the placement of the object relative to the verb or particle. Lastly, the Passive voice is utilised when we do not know who is performing the action, we do not care who is performing the action or when we do not wish to speak about who is performing the action.
