I think that this unit is very helpful. I wanted to learn more about the techniques used to teach "false beginners," as they comprise a majority of my classes. They have been exposed to English for some time but only rarely remember something from prior classes. Seeing the tips for teaching beginners was useful, as it let me compare what I do in class presently against a metric for what I can or should be doing in class to improve student learning. I think the biggest problem is the use of the mother language in the classroom: students just aren't incentivized to learn when they know the translated explanation is right behind. It's a big problem that I have difficulty overcoming, considering how it is my co-teachers who usually end up doing the translating.
