This unit gives an overview of the usage of modal verbs, the passive voice, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs. A list of the most commonly used modal verbs is provided along with examples of proper use and comparisons their degrees of certainty, obligation, and politeness. The passive voice and its structure are detailed with examples and usage included. Relative clauses are introduced as a form of dependent clause that modifies a noun using (or not using) relative pronouns. Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs phrases consisting of a verb and an accompanying adverb, preposition, or adverb plus a preposition; these may be intransitive, transitive separable, or transitive inseparable.
