This unit introduces teaching receptive skills: reading and listening. Equally important and useful, these skills might be what interested students enough to study English in the first place. The basics that every teacher should consider before planning a receptive skills-based lesson are: a level of motivation of the students, a difficulty of the tasks, the amount of instructions and pre-teaching needed, and, of course, the flow of the lesson. It seems to me, that one of the important things to remember is not to teach receptive skills in a forced way that will not give the students any insight on how English works in daily life. The tasks a teacher chooses, authentic or not, should always be grounded in reality and resemble in some way what students will be doing in an English-speaking environment. The unit, as usual, gives us some activities and model lessons to further our understanding of the topic.
