The unit discussed methods and techniques for teaching English to special groups such as beginners, adults, individual students, and clients. Beginner students are divided into five categories: 1) The absolute beginner 2) The false beginner 3) The adult beginner 4) The young beginner 5) The beginner who doesn't know the Roman alphabet There are some important tips for teaching beginners: 1) Control your language 2) Pay attention to your board work 3) Identify students' needs 4) Use pair and group work 5) Revise constantly and give homework 6) Use visuals and choral drills 7) Give clear and simple instructions 8) Encourage students to speak and praise them 9) Give homework 10) Do not over correct Teaching individual students allow you to focus on the student's needs and establish a close relationship with the student, but it some activities require a group to be carried out. 1-1 activities include: 1) Newspaper and magazine articles 2) Music 3) Idioms, phrases and phrasal verbs 4) Videos 5) Photographs 6) Personal history 7) Relevant topics When you teach children, you need to be patient and to praise the child frequently. Also, you have to keep the lessons fun and varied, as children have a short attention span and they easily get bored. Moreover, you shouldn't issue threats, raise your voice or be inconsistent. There has been an increased need of teaching business English. Clients who study business English will often be of different ages and mixed levels. It is important to find out the clients needs by asking them to fill in a "needs analysis" which contains questions about the client's job, responsibilities, areas that he needs to focus on, whether or not he has lived in an English speaking country, previous study of English and what they need to learn English for and how frequently they need to use it at work. After finishing the " needs analysis", the teacher can start planning the course by writing down, objectives, language, situation and studying materials, while taking into consideration group and individual needs. You can use your ignorance of the client's work and native language to your advantage by asking him to explain his work to you in English.
