Although I have had very limited teaching experience, I do know that the materials I used were incredibly important for me. It gave me a structure of sorts, allowing me to more easily dictate the direction of the lessons. However, I always tried to incorporate exercises that would be useful to my students and not just follow the text books. Having read the above chapter, I am glad that I was on the right path in terms of engaging the students and helping them with real life situations as well.
