Interactive and interesting materials can keep students excited about learning a new language. It can also encourage progress already made. For example, real world material such as movie clips or newspaper articles that are at a student's level of understanding should give the student a feeling of accomplishment. White boards can help a student follow along in a lesson and take better notes, rather than risking getting lost in the monotony of a lecture.
