This unit examines course books and lesson materials. They can be classified as authentic - written for native speakers, and non-authentic - written for learners of English. This type can be: published text books, audios, and videos. Teacher created materials mentioned are: puzzles, role-play cards, fill-in-the-blanks exercises, and other work sheets. Published course material usually consists of books, cds, and videos.
There are advantages to using professionally produced materials: convenient, reliable, graded to different levels, and a good mix of grammar, vocabulary and language skills.
The disadvantages are that they target a general group instead the specific need of a few, they can be boring if used for every class, and are too broad to help all ethnic groups of students master English.
