The importance of how you teach is nearly as important as the material you are covering. There are many many methods of presenting the material, from translation and repetition, to reading stories aloud and engaging in games. Each student should be encouraged to use English as much as possible during the duration of the lesson (and not use the L1 at all is possible). The students should be engaged and practice skills they have already mastered before new material is introduced. A separate time for studying is vitally important and necessary for students to understand and perhaps even help other students learn (which will strengthen their own understanding). Creativity should always be encouraged in all stages of learning.
