When you first start teaching a class you do NOT want to immediately start teaching from the book. This will bore the students and confuse them. You want to be able to make sure the students are comfortable with each other and the material before you start your lessons. You can do this by engaging them in starter activities and games, drawing their attention an interest to the class and material. Each student, fast or slow learners, need to be helped at their own levels.
