Where to study TESOL?

ITTT has a highly-respected in-class TESOL course that is available in many different locations around the world. To help you decide which location is best for you we have given a brief overview of our options in each of the major regions below. We would recommend doing your own thorough research in terms of visas and other regulations required for you to attend a four-week training course in another country.

TESOL course in Asia

As Asia contains the largest markets for English language teachers, there are plenty of centers to choose from throughout the region. Despite recent changes that have taken place in China, there are still some locations to choose from there. Other popular Asian options are Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

TESOL course in Europe

Our European destinations vary greatly, from the metropolis cities of France (Paris) and Italy (Rome) to more relaxed destinations such as the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Spain, and the UK. However, many European cities are quite expensive to live in for a month and this may be a factor in your choice.

TESOL course in the Americas

North America has many options across the USA, as well as centers in Canada and Mexico. Central and South America also have training centers in a range of superb locations, including Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala and Peru.

Other regions/countries for a TESOL course

Outside of the above regions, there are some other areas where courses are available. On the continent of Africa there is a center in Alexandria, Egypt, while in the south there are courses in Cape Town, South Africa. Courses are also offered in Sydney, Australia.

Further considerations before choosing a TESOL course location

1) Overall cost

It is important to take into account other incidental costs when choosing your location for a four-week course. Perhaps the most expensive additional cost will be accommodation. Four weeks in Tokyo city center will obviously be vastly more expensive than four weeks in a small city in Cambodia.

2) Travel requirement (visas etc)

Many countries will have entry, length of stay and exit restrictions. You should familiarize yourself with all these before paying for a course. Some countries only give a 30 day visa, which if you intend staying after your four-week course is finished, would need extending. Make sure you know all the regulations and keep your passport and visa status current and legal.

3) Getting a job

If you know which country you would like to work in once certified, then it would make sense to do a certification course in that country (if possible). This will give you some advantages for finding work. Firstly, your teaching practice experience will be with speakers of that country, which will give you a head start. Secondly, you will be able to monitor job vacancies and apply for them ‘in country’, which is always an advantage.
