TESOL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Jo Ann
Jo Ann took the 120-hour online TEFL course with tutor support from ITTT. In this TEFL review video Jo Ann tells how she completed the course in six weeks and despite not needing the tutor support, was glad that is was there if necessary. Jo Ann is now volunteering her time as an English tutor at her local library and plans to move to Santiago in Chile for a year to teach English. It should be noted that volunteering your services as an English teacher at your local library or community centre is not only a great way to do something for your community, it is also an excellent means of gaining classroom experience to add to you CV or resume before heading out to teach English abroad.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In unit 13, I was reminded that every language has different pronunciations and intonations. For the English language the rise/ fall intonation is usually used in most sentences. Both pronunciation and intonation are crucial to the student's understanding the language, as well as speaking it. As a teacher it is important to find the best ways to teach these skills. For me, I think using the 'your own mouth' and visuals would be most affective for students. They will hear my pronunciations very clearly and slowly, and with the visuals they will try to mirror what the placement of the mouth and tongue are at.
