This chapter was definitely the most difficult to get through. The teaching of pronunciation includes focus on intonation and stress requires a focus on both the physical and cultural aspects of speech. The mouth diagrams and the various forms of sounds produced by different parts of the mouth were numerous but easy to understand once one created the sounds using the guides in the chapter. The most novel part of this chapter was the use of the phonetic alphabet to create words and produce sounds. This aspect of the lesson seemed superfluous at first but after attempting the questions, I understood what it can do for learners of English.
