In this unit, I learned about managing classes effectively by having eye contact, using appropriate gestures, and having a clear and suitable tone of voice. I think these will ensure the class to be lively and to make the students more attentive. I also learned how to arrange the classroom and group students accordingly by being aware of their personalities, nationalities, culture, etc. The balance between teacher talking time and student talking time was also discussed in this unit. To minimize teacher talking time, one must avoid using jargon, choose the language carefully in giving instructions, and use gestures. In short, the teacher must keep it simple! To know if a student understands given instructions, ask them to explain it back. Maintaining discipline in the classroom is also vital in conducting an effective class. It is important that the teacher balance exercising control and encouraging a relaxed environment while in the classroom.
