A modal is a type of auxiliary (helping) verb that is used to express: ability, possibility, permission or obligation. We use modal verbs to show if we believe something is certain, probable or possible (or not). Voice in English expresses the relationship of the subject to the action. Voice has two values. Active: the subject does the action, passive: the subject receives the action. Although the passive voice is less common than the active voice, there are several reasons to use the passive. We use the passive when we want to emphasize the receiver of the action, we don't know who did the action, we think the agent is not important or interesting, the agent is obvious. Relative clauses are non-essential parts of a sentence. They may add meaning, but if they are removed, the sentence will still function grammatically. We use defining relative clauses to give essential information about someone or something. We use non-defining relative clauses to give extra information about the person or thing, it's not necessary information. We don’t need it to understand who or what is being referred to. A phrasal verb is a verb that is made up of a main verb together with an adverb or a preposition, or both. Typically, their meaning is not obvious from the meanings of the individual words themselves, that's why better should be learned as vocabulary items.
