Lesson Planning is a very important object for the teacher to have to conduct any class. Many people have stated that a lesson plan does not give the flexibility to conduct a class and is too ridged; however, this is a bias opinion. A lesson plan is a guideline. It helps as a working document and works as a record to refer to later, and it helps someone else to be able to cover for you if need be. A lesson plan consists of several items that help throughout class and helps you keep on task. When creating a lesson plan, you want to consider several details. A lesson plan should be simple and easy to follow with a set of skills or goals to accomplish in a certain amount of time, and should help the teacher be organized and ready for class. There also should be room for adaptability and flexibility in case issues should arise. In order to create a lesson we need to consider a few things. We need to consider the following items to create a lesson plan: the teacher’s name, class level, number of students (important for worksheets, activities, etc), teaching aids (what things should be in the classroom and how will the objects/props be applied), learning objectives (what the student should come away with in knowledge), personal aims (what the teacher excepts to learn from the lesson), learning point (how the information can be applied to later), anticipated problems with solutions (both for teacher and student). The second things we should consider are the procedure (how class should be conducted and what activities should be done), the phase the activities or class should be in (Engage, Study, Activate), the amount of time each phase and activity should take, and what type of class interaction will the activity be (Teacher-Student; Student-Student; Student Only). Once the activities are under way, the teacher should find ways to monitor the students’ progress and what errors they are making. Once you close the activity, you can decide what kind of correct would work best: Self-correction or peer correction along with the teacher’s correction. The students should feel comfortable and feel as they have learned something in the classroom, if the lesson plan was effectively followed. Therefore, as one can see, following these simple steps in making a lesson will make the classroom flow more smoothly and be rewarding in all directions for the student and the teacher.
