Here is a list of the most common teaching aids used in the class: 1) The board: It is an indispensable object in all classrooms whether it is a whiteboard, a blackboard, a flip chart, or an interactive white board. There are some principals that teachers should take in consideration when using the board: a) Dividing the board into sections b) Adjusting the size of their writing for all students to see c) Being accurate and writing important information only on the board d) Highlighting particular language points through using different colors, circling and underlining There are further principals for using interactive white boards such as: a) The teacher should receive proper training for using IWB b) He should test the board before the beginning of the class, and prepare a backup plan c) He should make sure that it is placed in a proper place 2) Over the head projector (OHP) Using (OHP) has many advantages such as: a) It draws the students' attention b) It reduces the time used by the teacher for writing on the board c) Teachers can overlay over the head transparencies (OHTs) on top of each other, which is helpful in showing different patterns and highlighting language points d) OHTs can be reused However, setting them up can be rather troublesome. 3) Visual aids such as, pictures and real objects can be useful in illustrating the meaning, introducing new vocabulary, and engaging the students. 4) Worksheets and work cards: They can act as prompts and they are used for different exercises and activities. 5) Cassette recorders and CD players: Both are used to play audios. Blank cassettes can be used to record the students' communication, and authentic materials 6) Video camera: It can be used to record the students during activities, or for creating films, making interviews, recording plays, and news broadcast 7) Videos and DVDs: Videos can be motivating when used from time to time. 8) Dictionaries: They help the students to understand words meanings, usage, and pronunciation.
