This unit focused on teaching receptive skills, namely reading and listening. These skills are integral to learning English, as they are essential to understanding vocabulary, grammar, and other tools necessary for productive skills. Reasons for receptive skills vary from reading or listening for a purpose to reading or listening for entertainment. We read and listen using predictive skills, scanning for specific information, skimming for the general idea, deducing meaning from context, and attempting to understand something in its entirety, its depth, gleaning all of the details.
