This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have gained extensive knowledge in areas of teaching english of which I had never even contemplated before starting this course, predominantly when it comes to grammar rules. I have learnt that instead of the three tense I was previously aware of there are actually twelve tenses in which we speak english.
I have become more aware of the methods, tips and small tricks that different teachers use to teach their lessons to draw the best out of their students. I have learnt how to plan detailed and structured lesson plans and what methods I can use if lessons don’t quite follow the plan. I have realized that teaching is not just a case of the teacher dictating material from the course to the students; that there are many ways to get students involved and learning in an efficient, practical and fun way and that as a teacher I must be willing to adapt to any situation that may arise within the classroom – and within the course I’m teaching - and be willing to do whatever I ask of the students myself.
For me the most important aspects I will into action from this course will be to love and enjoy my job. Good teachers love to inspire and work around learners of the language, I will be patient, adaptable and interesting throughout my teaching career, as well as ensuring I establish great rapport with students of all ages, ethnicities, genders and religious backgrounds whilst also recognizing their levels of learning and how they can most effectively better themselves and progress through each lesson to eventually become successful english language speakers, writers, readers and listeners.
