As a native english speaker I was shocked at how difficult the grammar sections were for me. Growing up here in America and only knowing one language, I took for granted the amount of rules and structure that is involved in the english language and I now see how important it is for non-native speakers to learn these things. I stayed in thailand for six months so I was able to really see the difference between how much information could be exchanged when the non-native speaker could speak english with fluidity as opposed to being apprehensive because they are not comfortable with the grammar and pronunciation. As a non-native speaker (I'm a Filipina), I was more familiar with studding the structure of the english language. I have personally experienced the difference in being fluent in english as compared to my friends and even family members. I have lived in hong kong and now the united states and I know I would not have had these opportunities if I did not know english. I know the importance for non-native speakers to learn english, not only if they want to live abroad, but also if they want to stay in their own country. As someone who lives in a country like thailand or the philippines, being able to speak english can and will give you more opportunities for work and will lead to higher income and advancement. This can really affect ones future and the future of their families. Janice and I plan on moving to Thailand and becoming english teachers. Since I really enjoyed my time there and since Thailand is really making more of an effort to teach their citizens english, we really want to be a part of helping the Thai people with their development of learning english. We would like to teach in thailand for a few years, possibly exploring different cities, then eventually settling down and teaching in Hong Kong. Teaching english is a really rewarding proffesion which can have a great personal impact on both the student and the teacher. We are glad we took this course which really challenged us. We both learned a great deal of valuable information both regarding grammar and how to actually teach the english Language. Our tutor Tania was really nice and extremely helpful and gave us great tips and feedback which really helped us. We would recommend ITTT to anyone who wants to be a TEFEL teacher.
