This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Interesting unit. It has a very detailed information of how the young learners can have a very effective memorization technique learning through games , stories, arts and crafts, drama and movement, songs, chants and music. These are very easy ways and helpful ways for young learners to remember what they learn. Good unit with lots of different games and interesting lesson plan. Teachers needs that kind of practical examples to improves their lesson plan. I am teaching a lot with kindergarten and 6 and 7 years old learner and that kind of idea help me a lot to introduce new games and make my teaching more suitable for the kids and more interesting for them. Of course, staying in a confort zone is easier for me but for the kids it can be boring to always make the same structure in my lesson. My favorite age group is around 9 years old, it represent a challenge but it's easier to change activities and speaking a bit more than the 4-5 years old group as: What is your name? How are you? or How old are you? which the kids always giving as robot answers without really understanding what they are saying and singing easy song. For teaching that age group needs lots of energy to make it happy with good games and songs in a proper learning environment without too much discipline. It can be a real mess inside the classroom if the rules are not clear and short, always needs to repeat but it's normal and it the same for all age group. Is the reason, i think is good to have many example of different games and lesson plan to improves the teaching. This unit is about teaching themes. It introduces various teaching methods to make the language learning interesting, motivational, and interactive. Such methods are using songs, chants, and music, games, stories, arts and crafts, seasonal activities, drama, and movements. It also includes lesson plan development for specific teaching group using the ESA method. It helped me understand the importance of making the learning easy, fun, and enjoyable in order for the students to effectively learn from the teachers. And also, I can also maximize the use of internet in this generation so that students can relate better.
