Conditionals are used to express hypothetical situations and consequences. The five types of conditionals are zero, first, second, third, and mixed. All conditionals are formed with the "If" clause, giving a condition for which the following clause will give the consequence to. The zero conditional is formed with the "if" or "when" clause + present tense followed by a clause in the present tense. This can be used to describe facts and set-in-stone actions. First conditional is formed with the "if" clause + present simple, then a following "will" clause. This can be used to describe possible future scenarios. Second conditional is formed with the "if" clause + past simple, then would/could/might + the base form of the verb. This can be used to describe an unlikely scenario of the present or the future. Third conditional is formed with the "if" clause + past perfect, then would/could/might + "have" + the past participle of the verb. This can be used to describe a hypothetical past scenario and its consequences. Mixed conditionals are used to describe hypothetical past action with its hypothetical present consequences. It is formed with the "if" clause + past perfect, followed by would + the base form of the verb. Reporting speech is used for reporting (third person) something done by another person. It requires translating direct speech (first person) into reported speech (third person) and changing the present to the past form. It is generally used to carry information onto another source than the original, hence report.
