Unit 19 was fairly straightforward and discussed different types of students one might encounter. I am already teaching at a private school in Bolivia, so much of the information did not apply to my current situation; however, would be helpful for possible future positions. In general. there are different strategies that one should employ depending on the group he or she is teaching. For example, if teaching a group of professionals, the teacher will want to address their specific needs, as they may be learning the English language to use at their job. In terms of children, the teacher needs to keep lessons simple and fun. It was helpful to learn that the student's native language should not be used in instruction. However, I have heard different opinions based on this topic and am still wondering what is best. I do agree that limiting the native language is best, but perhaps using native language to clarify directions would be helpful.
